About Our Church

Who We Are

St. Paul’s is a parish of the Episcopal Church and a member of the worldwide Anglican Communion, a group of Christians numbering more than 90 million people. We believe in a loving, liberating, life-giving God revealed to us in Jesus Christ. We are committed to proclaiming God’s love, celebrating the image of God in every person, and being a house of prayer and service for all. We believe that “There is no longer Jew or Greek […] there is no longer male and female, for all of you are one in Christ Jesus” (Galatians 3:28). People of all nationalities, ethnicities, faith backgrounds, sexual orientations, and gender identities are welcome among us.

What We Believe

We believe in one God, Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. We believe that God became human in the person of Jesus Christ and came to dwell among us. Jesus died and rose again for our redemption. We believe in the work of the Holy Spirit. We are both catholic- that is, true to the historic and apostolic faith; and protestant- that is, truly reformed and insistent that God is still active and speaking in our world.  Since we belong to the historic and apostolic faith, the sacraments are central to our common life. What We Do

We believe that “as the body without the spirit is dead, so faith without deeds is dead” (James 2:26). People at St. Paul’s serve our community and our parish in a variety of ways, from working at our food pantry to supporting The Inn Between, or the Second and Second Coalition. We also offer a rich array of formation classes, affinity groups, and other ways to grow in faith. Many of our parishioners find singing in the choir, preparing the Sanctuary in the altar guild, or serving as lectors to be valuable parts of their spiritual life. We also offer varied programs for kids, such as Godly Play and St. Paul’s Preschool.

Our History

St. Paul’s has a long history in Utah, having served our community for 145 years. Our church was originally founded as a mission of St. Mark’s Cathedral in 1878, and met in congregants’ homes until our first church building was completed in 1880. Old St. Paul’s sat at the corner of 4th South and Main Street, in the location currently occupied by Apollo Burger and Quarters Arcade Bar. The church was named for St. Paul’s Parish on Broadway in New York City after two generous sisters from that church helped pay for the construction of the original chapel. The growing congregation at St. Paul’s soon became an official parish, and began to rapidly out-grow the church at 4th S. and Main… read more.
